NEW YORK CITY – Sophomore Alexandra Lucki finished second in the one mile run and Micha Powell broke a school record in the 400m dash to lead a solid performance by the Maryland track and field team at the Armory Invitational this weekend.
Maryland performed well at the high powered event that featured some of the best competition in the country. Senior Chioma Onyekwere took the shot put crown.
Lucki missed a win in the mile by .02 of a second, finishing in a time of 4.45.36, the second fastest in Maryland history. Powell was once again in good form with a school record of time of 53.73 to take fourth in the 400m. It's the second school record Powell has broken this season
After a clean sweep of the throws at the Terrapin Invitational, Onyekwere continued her fine season with a toss of 52-08.00, the third-best in Maryland history and just off her own personal best, to win the shot put. The senior came back in the weight throw and notched a mark of 63-00.25 to place fifth.
Catherine Voelpel placed second in the 500m, clocking a time of 1.15.49.
The men's effort was anchored by senior Dan Trettel, who took third in the men's 1000m in 2:27.98. Trettel returned to place fourth in the men's mile with a time of 4:11.32.
Charlotte Staver ran the eighth-fastest 800m time in school history (2:11.88) to place ninth. Peyton Wade led the Terps in the high jump with a mark of 5-08.75 to place fifth.
Kayla Richardson's 39-06.00 was good enough to place her eighth on Maryland's all-time list.
The women's 4x200m team placed fifth in the college division (1:39.36) while the 4x400m squad was fourth in 3:46.00.
The men's 4x400m team placed third in 3:17.04.
