Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior center Brionna Jones scored a career-high 28 points and added 11 assists but the No. 5 Maryland women's basketball team fell, 94-86, to seventh-ranked Ohio State Monday night.
Jones led four Maryland players who recorded double digits, including 16 from Tierney Pfirman, 14 from Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and 13 from Kristen Confroy. Jones notched her 12th double-double of the season
Ohio State never trailed en route to sweeping the regular season series against the Terrapins (21-3, 10-2), who did not lose a game to a Big Ten opponent last season and won the conference regular season and tournament titles in their first year as members.
The Buckeyes (19-4, 11-1) took sole possession of first place in the Big Ten.
Ohio State opened up a 24-14 lead in the first eight minutes thanks mostly to hot shooting from Ameryst Alston, who had 11 points in the first quarter and all three of her 3-pointers.
Maryland committed nine turnovers in the first quarter, but had a 14-4 rebounding advantage and scored seven points off of Ohio State's three turnovers.
The Buckeyes took a 47-40 lead into the locker room at halftime and stretched that advantage to as many as 18 in the third quarter.
Maryland dominated the glass, finishing with a 47-31 rebounding edge, but the Terps could not overcome 23 turnovers.
The Terrapins started three players from Ohio: Malina Howard of Twinsburg, Confroy of Solon and Chloe Pavlech of Cincinnati Sycamore.
Next, Maryland will return home to host Purdue (16-6, 7-4) Thursday at 7 p.m. at the XFINITY Center. For tickets to the Purdue game, click here or call 1-800-IM-A-TERP.
