Box Score NORMAN, Okla.- Brenna Nation hurled her first career no-hitter and the first for the Terrapins since 2013 as Maryland run-ruled Saint Louis 8-0 in five innings.
Maryland blasted two home runs: a grand slam by Emily Libero and a two-run shot by Kristina Dillard; and Hannah Dewey brought home the other two runs to put eight on the board.
“Today we played like we were on a mission,” said head coach Julie Wright. “It was really fun to watch.”
Redshirt junior Brenna Nation pitched lights out, throwing five hitless innings. After allowing two walks in the first, Nation threw four perfect innings. The Chickamauga, Ga. native was in control all afternoon, just throwing 53 pitches. This is the first single-pitcher no hitter for Maryland since Madison Martin threw one on March 27, 2013.
“Nobody deserves this performance today more than Brenna,” said Wright. “She threw her game and stayed within herself. The defense was stellar behind her and it just all came together.”
The Terrapins scored in each of the first four innings. In the first, Hannah Dewey cracked a single up the middle to bring in Skylynne Ellazar. In the second, it was Emily Libero, hitting her second home run of the weekend, this time a grand slam to clear the bases and give Maryland a 5-0 lead.
Kristina Dillard hit a two-run dinger, her second of the year in the third to put the sixth and seventh runs on the board. Hannah Dewey came through again in the fourth with her second RBI single of the game, team leading 18th of the year to put the run-rule in effect.
Nation forced three groundouts in the fifth to preserve her no-no.
