COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland junior Alexandra Stanova was named Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Stanova was a big part of Maryland's dominant 6-1 victory against No. 62 Purdue this past Sunday. The Terps (5-7) are off to a 2-1 start in Big Ten play.
Stanova defeated Nicole Robinson (7-5, 5-7, 6-3) at the No. 1 singles position and added a doubles win over Robinson and Krisztina Kapitary (7-6 (4)) alongside partner Kristina Hovsepyan.
It's the second weekly award of her Stanova's career. She was the last Terp to garner a weekly tennis award from the Big Ten, taking it home on March 17, 2015 also.
Stanova and the Terps return to action on Sunday at Iowa.
