COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Sophomore guard Melo Trimble was named an Associated Press All-American Honorable Mention selection Wednesday.
Trimble, a two-time All-Big Ten selection, led the Terps in scoring (14.8 ppg), assists (176), free throw percentage (.868) and steals (44). The guard was second in the B1G in free throw percentage, fifth in assists, tied for fourth in steals and 16th in scoring. He was also tabbed to the national ballot for the Wooden Award earlier this month.
The Upper Marlboro, Md., native scored 20 or more points nine times and led the Terps with games in double-figure scoring with 28.
Trimble is only the second player in Terrapin history to record 500 or more points in each of his first two seasons, joining former Naismith Player of the Year Joe Smith.
Trimble is Maryland's first AP All-American since 2010 when Greivis Vasquez earned second team distinction.
