
Terps Welcome Nebraska For Three-Game Set

COLLEGE PARK, Md.- The Maryland softball team will welcome the Nebraska Huskers to town for the first time ever this weekend for a three-game set.
After dropping a series to Ohio State a week ago, the Terps will look to rebound as they open up their home Big Ten slate.
This Weekend On The Diamond
Maryland will tangle with the Huskers for a three-game series in College Park this weekend. The Friday-Saturday-Sunday series will feature game times of 6:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 1:00 p.m.
Admission is free for all of this weekend's contests.

Last time out
- Maryland opened up conference last weekend at Ohio State. On Saturday, the Terrapins fell on a two-run walk-off home run after rallying the lead in the seventh inning; this game was wrapped around two run-rule defeats.
- Sarah Calta starred from the plate, batting .667 with a .700 on base percentage and 1.111% slugging percentage. Calta slammed two triples on the weekend, she now leads the Big Ten in that category with four.
- Lindsey Schmeiser returned to the lineup and produced. The senior was 2-4 with a two RBI single on Sunday while drawing two walks.
quick hits
- On the season, the Terps are hitting .282 with a .356 on base percentage and a .403 slugging percentage. Maryland has cracked 220 hits, scored 109 runs, knocked 37 doubles, and totaled 314 bases.
- Skylynne Ellazar has been a force from the plate all season. Through 30 games, the Hawaii native is batting a team leading .385 by way of 37 hits and 19 runs. Ellazar ranks seventh in the Big Ten in hits.
- Hannah Dewey and Kristina Dillard have also produced in the lineup. The two juniors have a combined 59 hits, 18 extra-base hits, and are top two on the team in RBI's with 42.
- From the circle, Madison Martin has led Maryland. The Edmond, Okla. native ranks in the top ten in the Big Ten with a 2.96 ERA in 18 appearances. Martin has struck out 42 batters, and held her opponents to a .241 batting average. In the Sunshine State a few weeks back, Martin was incredible; hurling a 0.90 ERA in 21.1 innings pitched with 23 strikeouts.
ScOUTING nebraska
- Nebraska, like Maryland, is coming off a series loss in the first Big Ten weekend of the year. The Huskers won the opener at Illinois before losing a Saturday doubleheader to drop the series 2-1. Nebraska stands at 20-11 overall with impressive wins over No. 4 Oregon and No. 7 James Madison. The are receiving votes in the latest NFCA Top 25 Poll.
- The Huskers are led at the plate by the dynamic duo of MJ Knighten and Kiki Stokes. The pair is batting .413 and .411 respectively. Knighten brings the power to the Husker lineup 15 home runs and 36 RBI's and Stokes has the constant stroke, putting through 28 sings.
- Cassie McClure has been the mainstay in the circle, hurling 85.1 innings this season. McClure has appeared in 25 of the 31 Husker contests and holds a 3.28 ERA.
- Nebraska ranks second in the Big Ten in slugging percentage, third in hits, second in RBIs, and second in home runs.
- NFCA Hall of Fame member Rhonda Revelle is in her 25th season in Lincoln, Nebraska. Revelle has 878 wins, 19 NCAA Tournament bertths, seven conference titles, and three trips to the Womens College World Series.
Series history
- The Terps and Huskers have only met three times with Nebraska holding the 3-0 edge. This will be the first meeting between Maryland and Nebraska as conference foes.
- The two programs last met in 2013 out in Palm Springs, California. Nebraska won 8-1, Corey Schwartz was 1-1 with two walks.
Surging sarah
- Surging, sensational, stellar, super are all words to describe Sarah Calta's play over the last fifteen games.
- The junior captain is batting a team high .447 from the plate with 17 hits, seven runs, six walks, and four triples.
- Calta leads the Big Ten in triples and ranks third nationally after cracking two last weekend.
Legendary Lindsey
- In her senior season, Lindsey Schmeiser has put together quite the Terrapin career.
- Schmeiser has earned numerous accolades during her Terrapin career, including 2013 ACC Freshman of the Year, First-Team All ACC, First-Team Big Ten, and Big Ten Player of the Week (3/16/15).
- The week of February 20th might've been Schmeiser's most successful yet. On Sunday Feb 21, Lindsey broke the school home run record. On Monday Feb 22 she was named a 2016 Senior CLASS Award candidate. To cap it off, on Tuesday Feb 23 she was named the Solomon Eye Terp of the Week.
- The Dunkirk, Md. native is climbing atop the all-time ranks in numerous categories. Schmeiser is third in Maryland softball batting average ranks (.338), has the most home runs in school history (31), is five runs away from breaking Jennifer Potzman's school run record, and is nine doubles away from breaking the school doubles record, held by Lindsey Klein and Shannon Bustillos.
- Last season, Schmeiser broke the single-season double record (21) and had a 23 game hitting streak
looking ahead
- This weekend opens up Big Ten home-play for the Terps. Maryland will continue its eight game home stand next week with a Tuesday doubleheader against St. Francis and then a weekend series against Michigan State.
