
Trimble Tabbed to National Ballot for Wooden Award

LOS ANGELES - Maryland sophomore guard Melo Trimble has been named to the National Ballot for the 2016 John R. Wooden Award, announced by the Los Angeles Athletic Club Saturday.
Selected by the Wooden Award National Advisory Board, the list is comprised of 15 student-athletes who are candidates for the Wooden Award All-American Team and one shall receive the Wooden Award Trophy as the most outstanding college basketball player
Trimble leads the Terps in scoring (14.3 ppg), assists (5.2 apg), free throw percentage (.861) and steals (41). The Upper Marlboro, Md., native has scored 20 or more points in eight games this season, including 23 at then-No. 9 North Carolina and 24 at then-No. 10 Michigan State. He is two points away from 1,000 career points at Maryland.
Voting begins at the end of the season, and voters, consisting of nearly 1,000 members of the national college basketball media, will take into account the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Fans may vote through the fan voting site, sponsored by Wendy's, at www.woodenawardvote.com.
The 40th annual presentation of the John R. Wooden Award will be the anchor presentation of the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show presented by Wendy's. The men's and women's John R. Wooden All-American Teams will be honored during the ceremony. The event will take place the weekend of April 7-9, 2016.
Created in 1976, the Wooden Award Trophy is bestowed annually upon the nation's best male player and female player who has proven to their respective universities that they are making progress toward graduation while maintaining a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.
Maryland – currently ranked No. 14 in the Associated Press and No. 12 in the USA Today Top 25 polls – caps the regular season at No. 12/11 Indiana on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
