SAAC Holds Inaugural Spring Game Fan Fest

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland Student Athlete Advisory Committee put on its first ever “Fan Fest” at Maryland Stadium Saturday afternoon in conjunction with the football spring game and men's lacrosse contest vs. Rutgers. A large contingent of Maryland fans headed to the concourse for the event following the first-ever spring football game for new head coach DJ Durkin.

“We're really excited about the turnout today, especially since it's an inaugural event,” said Sr. Associate AD for Academics & Student Support Dr. Sue Sherburne. “We're really happy to be able to collectively come together and support all of the agencies that each of our teams sponsor throughout the year. So we thought this would be a great way to get together and look for ways to help educate the community about some of the diseases that are out there.”

Dozens of student athlete representatives from a host of programs were present raising awareness for the foundations their teams support throughout the season. Among the charities represented were Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Foundation, Osiligi Foundation/Rafiki Beads, First Tee – Maryland, Kids v Cancer, Habitat for Humanity, Reddy 2 Fight, Pin Cancer, Team Impact, Wounded Warrior Project, JDRF and Cystic Fibrosis.

Fans lined up for autographs from their favorite players, while enjoying the inflatable moon bounces, a caricature artist, face painting, corn hole, photo booth and other activities sponsored by SAAC.
