#5 Terps Run Past Ohio State, 10-8

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The No. 5 Maryland men's lacrosse team defeated Ohio State, 10-8, on Sunday night at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium to clinch at least a share of its second consecutive Big Ten regular season title.

The Terps (11-2, 4-0 B1G) had seven different goal scorers, including two-goal performances by junior attackman Matt Rambo, junior attackman Colin Heacock and senior midfielder Bryan Cole. Rambo also matched his career-high with a trio of assists for a five-point effort to lead Maryland to their 10th-straight victory.

It was Rambo who found the back of the net first, kicking off a high-scoring opening frame that would give the Buckeyes a 4-3 advantage.

Ohio State (6-8, 1-3) would take a 5-3 lead to start the second quarter before the Maryland offense busted open a seven-goal run deep into the third quarter for a 10-5 advantage. The run was fueled by two goals apiece from Cole and Heacock, as well as tallies from Rambo, senior midfielder Henry West and redshirt sophomore attackman Tim Rotanz.

During the run, the Terrapin defense held the Ohio State attack scoreless for a span of 24:42. This marks the third straight contest Maryland has held their opponent scoreless for a span of 20 minutes or more.

Junior defenseman Tim Muller and senior long-stick midfielder Mike McCarney each scooped up a pair of groundballs and added two caused turnovers. Heacock leads the Terps with 30 goals on the season.

The Terps return to action when they travel to face Johns Hopkins Saturday, April 30 for the 106th installment of the greatest rivalry in college lacrosse. The 2 p.m. faceoff will televised on ESPNU. With a win, Maryland would capture the Big Ten title outright.
