Day One Recap
GAINESVIILLE, Fla. – The Maryland women's track team saw its second school record go down this weekend, as the sprint medley relay squad set a new program record on the final day of the Florida Relays. Junior Micha Powell, senior Lisa Meneau, junior Catherine Voelpel and junior Alexandra Lucki took down a 11-year record in the event, combing to run 3:54.92. The time was good for fourth in the field, and was over four tenths of a second faster than the previous Maryland record set back in 2005 at the Penn Relays (3:55.37).
Meneau also ran on the 4x100 meter shuttle hurdle relay, teaming up with junior Taylor Tucker, sophomore Peyton Wade and senior Noella Anyangwe. The quartet finished fifth in the field with a time of 56.42.
In the field events, senior Johnna Dominick turned in a top-ten all-time performance in the high jump, clearing 1.73 meters (5-8.00) to take second in the field. The leap puts her into a tie for tenth all-time on the Maryland top-10 outdoor list. Senior Chioma Onyekwere was 11th in the shotput, posting a season-best 15.52 meters.
The men's sprint medley relay also had a solid showing, running the fourth fastest time ever for a Maryland team in the event with a mark of 3:24.22. Sophomore Alex Leto, junior Brandon Thompson, freshman TJ Bleichner and senior Dan Trettel combined to finish fifth in the field.
The Maryland track & field teams will return to competition Saturday, April 9 at the Virginia Lou Onesty Invite.
