Box Score MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- Maryland picked up six hits, including two by Kristina Dillard, but fell to No. 24 Minnesota, 11-1 in five innings.
The Terrapins started hot today, as they used a strong first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Lindsey Schmeiser reached on an error to start the afternoon. Then, Destiney Henderson picked up a bunt single. With first and third and one out, junior captain Kristina Dillard bolted one up the middle to score Schmeiser, and put the Terps on top.
Madison Martin started the game, which featured three Maryland pitchers. The Edmond, Okla. native allowed a two-out single but nothing else in the first. Also in the first, Dillard threw out her fourteenth runner of the year, which leads the Big Ten.
After Maryland threatened but couldn't score in the second, the Gophers responded with five in the bottom half. Assisted by a Terrapin error, Minnesota laced three hits to score take a 5-1 lead.
The No. 24 Gophers tacked on three in both the third and fourth off Hannah Dewey and Ari Jarvis to take an 11-1 lead.
Jordan Aughinbaugh had Maryland's lone extra base hit, with a fourth inning double. Lindsey Schmeiser and Hannah Dewey added singles.
Maryland and No. 24 Minnesota will wrap up the weekend set tomorrow at 1:00 ET.
