JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Junior Micha Powell starred for the Terps on day two of the NCAA East Regionals Saturday, posting a career-best 51.97 in the finals of the 400 to qualify for the 2016 NCAA Championships. The mark resets her own school record, and was fourth in the field in the East quarterfinal round as the Ontario, Canada native punches her ticket to her first career appearance at the NCAA Championships.
Powell ran a 52.56 in Thursday's first round to qualify for today's quarterfinals, where she notched her fastest career mark in the event. Sophomore Alexandra Lucki also advanced to the quarterfinals of her event, posting a career-best 4:20.16 in the 1500 to advance to Sunday's quarterfinal round. Lucki will race at 6:30 pm in tomorrow's quarterfinals.
Junior Brandon Thompson crossed the line in 21.43 to place 42nd in the men's first round of the 200 meter dash. Junior Lisa Meneau went 59.01 in the 400 meter hurdles on Friday to place 27th in the field in Friday's quarterfinal round.
Junior Peyton Wade cleared 1.71 meters in the high jump to place 27th in the field. Senior Chioma Onyekwere threw 44.82 meters in Friday's quarterfinal round of the discus. She will be in action again tomorrow in the women's shotput starting at 3:30 pm.
