A Look at the terps
- For the second time in the past three seasons, a trio of Maryland athletes has qualified for the NCAA Championships.
- Sophomore Alexandra Lucki has qualified as the No. 20 overall seed in the 1500 after a huge performance at the East Regional to punch her ticket to her first-ever NCAA Championship event. The Ontario, Canada native went into the weekend as the No. 44 seed in the event, but advanced out of the first round with a personal-best 4:20.16 in the race. Lucki then followed up with another clutch performance on Saturday in the quarterfinals, running 4:20.90 to place 12th in the race and earn the last qualifying spot out of the region. Lucki also moved up on the Maryland all-time list in the event, now with second fastest time ever in the event. To advance to the finals on June 11, Lucki will need a top-five finish in her heat, or one of the next two fastest times.
- Junior Micha Powell has qualified for her second NCAA championship event in the 400 after running a personal-best 51.97 in the quarterfinal round at the East Regional last weekend. After posting a 52.56 in the first round, Powell reset her own school record to finish fifth in the region and earn the No. 7 seed for the semifinals in Eugene. To advance to the finals on June 11, The Ontario, Canada native will need a top-two finish in her heat or one of the next two fastest times.
- Senior Chioma Onyekwere earned a spot in the shot put as the No. 23 overall seed after throwing 16.26 meters at the East Regional. The throw was good for 11th in the field, as the Fairfax, Va. product secured a bid for her second career NCAA Championship event. The potential to move up in Eugene is there for Onyekwere, as she previously threw a career-best 16.85 meters at the Big Ten Championships last month. She will need a top-eight finish in the finals on June 9 to secure All-America honors.
