#ProTerps Report: Morris Answering the Bell

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland baseball team currently has multiple players playing professional baseball. UMTerps.com will periodically update their progress as they go through their respective seasons.

Spotlight: Morris Flourishes in bullpen, name contests

Zach Morris' second professional season has seen him emerge as one of the top bullpen arms for the Philadelphia Phillies Class-A affiliate Lakewood BlueClaws. The left-hander holds a 4-1 record and a season-low ERA of 2.90 and jumped into the closer role for a stretch, picking up three saves in a three-appearance stretch. He earned BlueClaws Player of the Week honors on July 5 for his efforts.

However off the mound, Morris has continued to receive notoriety for his name, which he shares with this famous alumnus of Bayside High School.

Morris' notable namesake helped place him in MLB Network Radio's Best Name in Minor League Baseball Tournament. Placed in “Short But Sweet” Division in the opening round, Morris held off a late charging Jose Jose to move into the finals. Kelly would be proud.

In the finals, Morris came up just short in a battle with Skye Bolt, Icezack Flemming and Christian Turnipseed (robbed), but probably took a bigger loss in the process.

If Morris continues to carve, eventually Mr. Gosselaar will have to come around. Lets move on to the rest of the ProTerps.
