#ProTerps Report: Lowe on Fire for Hot Rods

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland baseball team currently has multiple players playing professional baseball. UMTerps.com will periodically update their progress as they go through their respective seasons.

Spotlight: Lowe breaks hot rods record

When Maryland saw a record eight players drafted in 2015, there were an unprecedented amount of new “ProTerps” for fans to follow in minor league parks around the country.

The only new professional that was unable to showcase his talents immediately was Brandon Lowe. A second team All-American his redshirt sophomore season, Lowe went down with an injury in Maryland's final postseason game and missed the entire 2015 season after being drafted in the third round by the Tampa Bay Rays.

Now firmly entrenched as the starting second baseman for the Single-A Bowling Green Hot Rods of the Midwest League, Lowe made history on Sunday with a two-run single that extended his hitting streak to 18 games to set a new Hot Rods record.

The Suffolk, Va., native has been on fire in July, batting .364 and slugging .568 with a pair of home runs and three doubles. After overcoming injury, Lowe is now showing the offensive skills that made him one of the best hitters in recent Maryland history. Someone find Kevin Smith some more fire.

It's ProTerps time.
