
David Mendez Named CSC Academic All-District

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland baseball's David Mendez has been named Academic All-District, as announced by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday. The 2026 Academic All-District Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
To be considered for CSC Academic All-District honors, nominees must be at least a sophomore academically and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale at their current institution. Student-athletes must also compete in at least 90 percent of their team's games or start in at least 66 percent of games played.
Mendez was outstanding on the diamond for Maryland in 2026, leading the team with a .348 batting average in Big Ten play. Overall, the junior started 54 games and posted a .316 batting average, .401 on-base percentage, .549 slugging percentage and .950 OPS. He totaled 68 hits, 56 runs, 50 RBIs, 13 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, 25 walks and 12 stolen bases.
The Aldie, Virginia, native also recorded an 18-game hitting streak from March 27 to April 26. Some of Mendez's top performances of the season included driving in a career-high six runs at Michigan State on April 24, reaching base five times against Michigan on May 3 and scoring four runs on two separate occasions.
