Smith Leads Y-D Red Sox to CCBL Title

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland junior shortstop Kevin Smith earned Cape Cod Baseball League Championship Series MVP honors after leading the Yarmouth Dennis Red Sox to the CCBL title Saturday night.

Over the course of the three-game series, Smith went 6-for-12 with a home run and three RBI. The Red Sox dropped the opening game of the series to the Falmouth Commodores, before taking the final two to win the series. Smith helped the Red Sox stay alive in game two with a three-hit, two-RBI performance before notching the game winning RBI in a 3-0 series clinching victory in game three.

For the playoffs, Smith batted .370 with two doubles, three home runs and seven RBI. He was named a CCBL All-Star, along with fellow Terp Nick Dunn, and finished the regular season with a .301 average, 12 doubles and two home runs. Smith also notched 14 RBI and 21 runs scored while impressing with his glove at short throughout the summer.

Smith is coming off a spring in which he batted .259 and hit eight home runs with 34 RBI while starting all 57 games. The East Greenbush, N.Y. native was a freshman All-American on Maryland's record breaking 2015 Super Regional squad.

The title was the Red Sox's third straight.
