Terps Open 2016-17 Season on Friday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland women's tennis team will open its season this weekend at the 24th Annual Tribe Invitational and in the Bedford Cup at TCCP (Tennis Club College Park).
Maryland will open play at the Tribe Invitational at 9:30 a.m. on Friday morning with a doubles match against Dartmouth. Other teams at the invitational include Liberty, Marshall, Old Dominion, Penn, West Virginia and host William & Mary.
The Bedford Cup will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. Olivia Gaudreault will get things started against Sophie Barnard of Georgetown. VCU, James Madison, Coppin State, Georgetown and George Washington will all be attending the tournament.
The Terps traveling to the Tribe Invitational are Ekaterina Tour, Alexandra Stanova, Cassandre Thebault, Kristina Hovsepyan, and freshmen Saya Usui and Katsiaryna Yemelyanenka. All other members of the team will be participating in the Bedford Cup.
"The team had a great first week of practice and we are very excited for our first tournament weekend,” said head coach Daria Panova. “We have a great opportunity to play in two different tournaments and it will give us a chance to see everyone compete."
Maryland is entering its third season as a member of the Big Ten. Last season the Terps earned the fifth overall seed in the Big Ten Tournament after posting a 6-5 regular season conference record.
Maryland returns the majority of its roster from 2015, which includes Arnelle Sullivan, who was selected as the ITA Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year and the ITA Player to Watch for the Atlantic Region last season.
