CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Maryland women's tennis team continued its fall slate at the UVA Fall Invite in Charlottesville this weekend. The Terps were coming off an impressive opening weekend, and looked to continue their winning ways.
FRIDAY
Alexandra Stanova led the way for the Terps after sweeping Victoria Robertson of Utah, 6-4, 6-4. She also paired with Kristina Hovsepyan to split a pair of doubles matches which included a win over a duo from Utah.
Cassandre Thebault and Olivia Gaudreault also teamed up for the Terps and went 1-1 on the day. After dropping a match to South Carolina they bounced back to knock of a pair from Marshall.
SATURDAY
The singles competition took center stage on Saturday. Stanova took the court for a match against Hadley Berg of South Carolina. Stanova lost the match 6-2, 6-2, and moved into the fifth place bracket where she knocked off Margo Pletcher of Utah, 6-4, 7-5.
Gaudreault continued her singles competition as well, but lost to Ingrid Vojcinakova of Old Dominion, 6-4, 6-0. She moved into the 13th place bracket and defeated Marija Bogicevic of Marshall by withdrawl.
SUNDAY
Due to rain, Sunday's matches were forced indoors and all non-finals matches were played in eight-game pro sets.
The teams wrapped up the singles bracket, with Gaudreault and Thebault picking up wins for the Terps. Gaudreault defeated Daniela Dankanynch of Marshall 8-6, and Thebault knocked off Emily Pence of Virginia Tech 8-4.
Hovsepyan lost to Derya Turhan of Marshall 7-6, 6-1, and Stanova fell to Carolina Daxhelet by a score of 8-5.
The Terps dropped both doubles matches on Sunday, as Thebault and Gaudreault lost to a pair from Marshall by a score of 6-2, and Stanova and Hovesepyan lost to Old Dominion by the same score.
Maryland will be back in action next weekend in Philadelphia for the Cissie Leary Tournament.
