Terps Set To Open Spring Season

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – After an extremely successful fall slate, the Maryland women's tennis team is ready to hit the court for its spring season.

The Terps' fall campaign featured five doubles championships, including one by seniors Alexandra Stanova and Kristina Hovsepyan, who won the ITA Atlantic Regionals and advanced to ITA National Indoors in New York City. To read more about their time in the Big Apple, click here.

Sophomore Caroline Williams was a part of three of those doubles championships, teaming up with fellow sophomore Arnelle Sullivan to win the Bedford Cup, and then with junior Ekaterina Tour to win the Cissie Leary Invitational and the Kitty Harrison Invitational.

Maryland also had contributions from its two freshmen, Saya Usui and Katsiaryna Yemelyanenka. The two won their first collegiate doubles tournament when they took first place at the Tribe Invitational.

Seniors Cassandre Thebault and Olivia Gaudreault also found success in the fall. Thebault took home third place in the singles bracket at the Tribe Invitational, and Gaudreault finished in the Top 15 at the UVA Fall Invite.

Maryland will come into the spring season featuring its first preseason-ranked singles player in five years. Junior Ekaterina Tour cracked the ITA Preseason Singles ranking, the first Terp to do so since Cristina Stancu in 2012. Tour was also ranked the No. 14 singles player in the Atlantic Region.

Teammates Alexandra Stanova and Kristina Hovsepyan were tabbed the No. 1 doubles duo in the Atlantic Region, and Stanova was named the No. 20 singles player in the region.

Looking at the Terps' schedule, Maryland will open its season with a match in Annapolis, Md. against Navy. The Terps will then head to West Virginia before opening up their home schedule with a pair of matches against Boston University and Richmond on February 4 and 5.

Maryland will play a challenging conference schedule, taking on three ranked opponents.

The Terps will open Big Ten play with a match at Purdue. Iowa will be coming to College Park for Maryland's Big Ten home opener on March 4.

Maryland's other home conference matches include bouts against Michigan State, No. 14 Michigan, Rutgers, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Terps will also be hitting the road for matches against Penn State, No. 7 Ohio State, Northwestern (RV) and Illinois.

The Big Ten Championship will begin on April 27 and conclude on April 30.
