
Perfect Game Rates Smith #10 Junior Prospect

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland junior shortstop Kevin Smith was included at No. 10 on Perfect Game's Top-100 College Juniors Prospects list, released Tuesday.
Smith, who Perfect Game named a preseason All-American, exploded this summer, earning Cape Cod League All-Star and All-League honors. He batted .301 with 12 doubles and two home runs for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in the regular season before helping the Red Sox capture the CCBL title, receiving League Championship Series MVP honors.
Also regarded as one of the best defensive shortstops in the CCBL, Smith was named an honorable mention summer All-American by Perfect Game. For the Terps in 2016, Smith started all 57 games and batted .259 with eight home runs and 34 RBI.
Maryland is ranked in three preseason polls entering the 2017 season; D1Baseball (22), Baseball America (24) and Perfect Game (23).
The Terps open their season at the Clearwater Tournament in Clearwater, Fla. The Terps will take on Ball State in its opener on Friday, February 17 at 7 p.m. at Spectrum Field.
