Gerish Named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Redshirt junior Patrick Gerish was named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week, as announced by the conference offices on Tuesday. Gerish is the second-ever Terrapin to receive the honor and the second Maryland wrestler to do so this season. Teammate Youssif Hemida won the award on Nov. 21.
Gerish took home first place at the Cleveland State Open on Saturday, posting an impressive 5-0 record. His first four wins came by way of fall, including a 51-second pin in the second round of the tournament.
The New Jersey-native finished his championship run with a 6-3 decision over Brett Stein of Gardner-Webb.
Gerish improved his season record to 8-2, with five wins by fall.
