COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland will continue its stretch of five straight non-conference home games in the month of December Saturday when the Terps host Gardner-Webb at 12:30 pm. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The game will be streamed via BTN Plus.
storylines
• Mark Turgeon is 36-6 in the month of December since his first season at the helm at Maryland in 2011-12. Turgeon is also 27-3 in home games during that stretch.
• Michal Cekovsky made every shot he took, scoring 15 points to go with eight rebounds, and Maryland breezed past Ohio 87-62 Thursday night. Cekovsky has been a model of efficiency this season, shooting 80.0% from the field (24-for-30) through 11 games.
• Anthony Cowan Jr. stuffed the stat sheet vs. the Bobcats, finishing with 12 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in the win. The seven assists tied Cowan Jr.'s career high set last season.
• Cowan Jr. scored a career-high 27 points, including the game-winning free throw with 0.6 remaining, to lift Maryland past Illinois 92-91 in overtime on Dec. 3 for the team's first Big Ten win. The Bowie, Md. native has led the Terps is scoring in eight of 10 games this season, averaging a team-best 16.5 points per game.
• Maryland has gotten off to a steady start in each of its last three games, averaging 41.0 points in the first half of its games vs. Purdue, at Illinois and vs. Ohio. The Terps have outscored opponents 139-91 in the first half the past three games.
• Maryland came out of the gate hot at Illinois, shooting a season-high first half field goal percentage of 73.1% (19-for-26 from the field). It was the best field goal percentage in a single half since February 2, 2013 when the Terps shot 73.9% (17-of-23) in an 86-60 win over Wake Forest.
• Maryland has out-rebounded 10 of its 11 opponents this season, averaging 40.0 rebounds per game. Maryland's rebounding margin of +11.7 ranks 8th in the nation (as of 12/8), while the Terps are holding opponents to 39.6% shooting.
