
#3 Maryland Plays at Purdue Thursday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The third-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (21-1, 9-0 B1G) will play at Purdue (14-8, 5-3) Thursday at 8 p.m. ET at Mackey Arena. The Terps-Boilermakers matchup will be televised around the world on the Big Ten Network.

Thursday's matchup is the ninth all-time meeting between Maryland and Purdue. Maryland owns the series, 7-1, and has won the last five straight matchups, including both last year. Most recently, Maryland won 73-59 in College Park on Feb. 11 of last season. Shatori Walker-Kimbrough had 23 points and Brionna Jones had 12 and 11 boards.
At Purdue last Feb. 2, Maryland won 87-67 behind 41 points from Walker-Kimbrough. She went 17-21 from the field. Head coach Brenda Frese is 6-1 vs. Purdue in her career.
The Terps beat Iowa, 100-81, Sunday in College Park. Jones led the way with 28 points, Walker-Kimbrough scored 18 and Brianna Fraser added 17 in 15 minutes off the bench. Destiny Slocum picked up a double-double with 11 points, 11 assists and Kaila Charles scored 10 points with 8 points.
Jones is No. 5 on Maryland's rebounding list with 1,051 career boards. She is No. 9 on Maryland's scoring list with 1,657 points and needs 23 to pass Christy Winters Scott at No. 8 (1,679). She currently leads the Big Ten with 14 double-doubles this year. Walker-Kimbrough is No. 7 on Maryland's all-time scoring list with 1,870 career points. She needs nine points to pass Shay Doron at No. 6 (1,878). Walker-Kimbrough's career three-point percentage of 45.0% is currently the best in Maryland history ahead of Kristi Toliver's career percentage of 40.8%.
The Terrapins are No. 2 in the country in scoring (90.0), field goal percentage (.505), rebounding margin (+16.7) and third in scoring margin (+28.5). They are fourth in assists (20.5) and in assist/turnover ratio (1.4).
In Big Ten play, Slocum and Northwestern's Ashley Deary are leading the league in assists with 7.4 per game. Slocum is third among all league freshmen in scoring (11.2). Charles is fifth among Big Ten freshmen in scoring (9.7), tied for first in rebounding (5.5) and in offensive rebounds (2.6). Kristen Confroy leads the league in assist/turnover ratio (3.2).
The jerseys of Brionna Jones and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough will be honored in the rafters of the XFINITY Center immediately after the Terrapins' Senior Day game on Feb. 26. Game time and television information will be announced early in February.
Both Jones and Walker-Kimbrough have earned First Team All-Big Ten Honors, as well as Associated Press and WBCA Honorable Mention All-America honors. They've led the Terrapins to two Final Fours, two conference tournament titles and two conference regular season crowns. They have earned a record of 114-15 (.884) overall and a record of 61-5 (.924) at home at the XFINITY Center.
After Thursday's matchup, the Terrapins will stay on the road to play at Indiana (15-6, 5-3) Sunday at noon in Bloomington. The Terps-Hoosiers matchup will be televised around the world on ESPN2, the Watch ESPN app and WatchESPN.com.
