
#2 Terps Host Gophers on Senior Day

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The second-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (26-2, 14-1 B1G) will host Minnesota (14-14, 5-10) Sunday in a noon matchup at the XFINITY Center. With a win, the Terps can clinch at least a share of the Big Ten title. The Terrapins will honor seniors Brionna Jones and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough prior to the game.
The jerseys of Jones and Walker-Kimbrough will be honored in the rafters of the XFINITY Center immediately after Sunday's game. They've led the Terrapins to two Final Fours, two conference tournament titles and two conference regular season crowns. They have earned a record of 119-16 (.881) overall and a record of 63-5 (.926) at home at the XFINITY Center.
Sunday will also be Shatori Walker-Kimbrough bobblehead day. All fans will receive a scratch-off ticket upon entering the arena and 500 fans will win.

The Terps are 5-0 vs. the Gophers and 2-0 against them in XFINITY Center. Maryland took the first meeting this year, 83-72, in Minneapolis on Jan. 1. Jones led the way with 27 points and 13 rebounds and Walker-Kimbrough scored 22 points with 10 assists. Kaila Charles added 12 points.
Maryland fell to Ohio State, 98-87, Monday in Columbus. The Terps cut it to two at 68-66 at the end of the third quarter, but it wasn't enough to stop the Buckeyes, who shot 63 percent from the field. Walker-Kimbrough scored 29 points, Jones added 21 and Destiny Slocum scored 15.
Walker-Kimbrough is No. 5 on Maryland's all-time scoring list with 2,009 career points and is the fifth Terp to reach 2,000. She is No. 8 among Division I active scorers. Walker-Kimbrough's career three-point percentage of 45.0% is currently the best in Maryland history ahead of Kristi Toliver's career percentage of 40.8%.
Jones is No. 4 on Maryland's rebounding list with 1,125 career boards and needs 15 to pass Marissa Coleman at No. 3 (1,139). She is No. 8 on Maryland's scoring list with 1,768 points and is No. 18 among Division I active scorers. She currently leads the Big Ten with 19 double-doubles this year.
Slocum's 160 assists this year are nearing the Maryland freshman record for assists of 171 by Dara Taylor (2010). Slocum also needs to make three three-pointers to break the freshman record of 59 set by Toliver.
Jones is leading the country in field goal percentage (68.8%) for the second straight year. The Terrapins lead the country in scoring (89.9) and are No. 2 in field goal percentage (.504) and rebounding margin (+16.1). They are third in scoring margin (+26.7) and fourth in assists (20.1).
In Big Ten play, Slocum is leading the league in assists with 7.4 per game and Jones is leading in rebounding (11.3). Slocum is No. 3 among all league freshmen in scoring (11.2). Charles is sixth among Big Ten freshmen in scoring (9.9) and No. 1 in rebounding (5.4). Kristen Confroy leads the league in assist/turnover ratio (3.1).
Jones and Walker-Kimbrough are two of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award. Ten women's basketball student-athletes who excel both on and off the court were selected as finalists for the 2016-17 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate basketball. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be classified as NCAA Division I seniors and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

After Sunday's game, the Terrapins will compete in the Big Ten Tournament next week at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
