Terps Hit the Road to James Madison Tuesday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland baseball team travels to James Madison for a midweek contest against the Dukes at 6 p.m. Tuesday night.

LEADING IT OFF

•  Maryland is on a seven-game winning streak after a three-game home sweep of Michigan State. The Terps are 18-1 at home and 27-6 since the beginning of March. 

•  Junior Zach Jancarski has been on fire in April, with nine multi-hit games in his last 14 contests. Jancarski is currently on a 14-game hitting streak to raise his average to a season-high .340, a mark that ranks ninth in the Big Ten. He has reached base in 18 games straight contests. Jancarski is tied for third in the Big Ten in hits with 55. 

• Sophomore outfielder Marty Costes has emerged as one of the biggest offensive threats in the Big Ten this season. Costes is fourth in the Big Ten in average (.350), fourth in slugging (.580), sixth in on-base percentage (.438), seventh in runs scored (33), third in hits (55), ninth in RBIs (31), sixth in home runs (8) and second in total bases (91). Costes has reached base in 10 straight games. 

• Senior Brandon Gum is second in the Big Ten in on-base percentage with a .458 mark, propelled by .315 average and 24 walks (5th in Big Ten). Gum hit a walk-off solo home run against Penn State 

• The 2017 season is head coach John Szefc's fifth season in College Park. Szefc has led the Terps to four straight 30-win seasons and two NCAA Super Regional appearances, both program firsts. He became the fastest coach in Maryland history to win 150 games when the Terps topped Bryant in game one of a doubleheader on 3/12.

• The Terps topped the Big Ten preseason coaches poll while D1Baseball, Perfect Game and Baseball America named Maryland the Big Ten favorites for the 2017 season. It is the third straight year D1Baseball has tabbed the Terps its Big Ten preseason frontrunner.
