Four Terps Named Tewaaraton Nominees

WASHINGTON – Senior defender Nadine Hadnagy, senior midfielder Zoe Stukenberg, junior attacker Megan Whittle and sophomore goalie Megan Taylor were selected as Tewaaraton nominees, as announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation Friday.

With four players on the 25-player list, Maryland has the most nominees this season.

Hadnagy leads Maryland's defense, which ranks in the top-15 nationally. She leads the Terps with 23 caused turnovers and also has 22 ground balls.

Stukenberg impacts the Terps across the field and ranks in the top three on the team in each statistical category, including 38 goals, 20 assists, 58 points, 37 ground balls, 53 draw controls and 16 caused turnovers.

Stukenberg and Hadnagy are two-time team captains for the Terps. The duo was named Tewaaraton nominees last year as well.

Whittle paces Maryland's second-ranked offense with 54 goals and 64 points. The junior currently has 197 career goals and has led the Terps in scoring in each of her three seasons.

Taylor has emerged as one of the top goalies in the nation as just a sophomore and leads the nation with a .555 save percentage. She holds an 8.93 goals-against average and has made 157 saves this year.

The Terps finished the regular season 17-0 and clinched their third straight Big Ten regular season championship. Maryland will be the No. 1 seed in next weekend's Big Ten Tournament.

Maryland has won six of the last seven Tewaaraton Awards. Caitlyn Phipps captured the honor in 2010, while Katie Schwarzmann became the Terps' first two-time winner in 2012 and 2013. Taylor Cummings became the first-ever three time winner from 2014-16.

Five men's and five women's finalists will be announced on May 11 and invited to the ceremony. The 17th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held in Washington, D.C., on June 1.
