COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Junior Skylynne Ellazar turned in a solid day at the plate with two RBIs on two hits, but couldn't carry the Terps as Maryland dropped its series opener to Penn State 10-3 Friday evening. Marlaina Laubach went the distance without recording a strikeout to deliver the win from the circle for the Nittany Lions, who move to 21-28 (7-11 B1G) on the year. Maryland now stands 9-34 (2-14 B1G).

The visitors had the bats working early at Maryland Stadium, racking up six runs on five hits in the first two innings. Maryland managed to answer back in the bottom of the second, after Kassidy Cross reached on an error with one out.

Hannah Dewey then powered her seventh double of the season to left field to put runners on second and third, before a fielder's choice from Brigette Nordberg gave Maryland its first run. Ellazar followed it up with her first RBI of the day, slipping a single through the right side to make it 6-2 before the end of the frame.

Penn State would tack on four move runs between the fourth and sixth innings, while Ellazar's sixth double of the year put Maryland's third run of the game on the board in fourth.

The teams will return to the diamond to play tomorrow at 1:00 pm.
