COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior Hannah Dewey pitched one of the finest games of her Terrapin career Saturday to lead Maryland to a 2-1 extra innings victory over Penn State. Dewey pitched all 11 innings, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out three in the contest. Freshman Anna Kufta delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 11th, ripping a single to left field to bring in junior Skylynne Ellazar for the winning run.

Maryland moves to 10-34 (3-15 B1G) with the victory on Maryland Day and will go for the series win tomorrow when the teams meet for the grubber match at 1 pm.

Hits were at a premium throughout the game at Maryland Stadium, with neither team's pitcher allowing for much offense in the early goings. Penn State's Jessica Cummings also went the distance, striking out six while allowing just six hits to the Terps.

The Nittany Lions finally broke the scoreless tie in the fourth, after a ball hit deep to right field escaped Sarah Calta's glove and put Tori Dubois on third with no outs. A sacrifice fly would score PSU's only run of the day, before Dewey forced two more fly outs.

Maryland got even in the fifth, after Kristina Dillard blasted her third home run of the season over the fence in left field with two outs. From that point on, it was a back-and-forth pitcher's duel with neither hurler allowing baserunners to reach easy.

Ellazar broke through for a hit in the 11th with two outs, and made it over to second base on a wild pitch. Kufta then stepped up to the plate and made the big play, as Ellazar slid into home before the tag and the Maryland dugout emptied to celebrate.

Notes

- Today's 11-inning win was the longest extra innings game for Marylance since the Terps defeated Florida Atlantic 8-7 in 11 innings back on February 28,  2016.
