
Christinaki Set For FIBA European Championships

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Guard Eleanna Christinaki of the Maryland women's basketball team will play with the Greek Senior Women's National Team in the FIBA 2017 Eurobasket opening Friday in Prague.
Christinaki has been with the Greek National Team since May 15. The team traveled to Lucenec, Slovakia, Rome and back to Greece for friendly matches.
The Greek team is in Group C with Serbia, Slovenia and France. Former Terrapin Diandra Tchatchouang is on the French National Team. Greece will open its Eurobasket run with a game vs. Serbia on Friday at noon ET, then will play Slovenia Saturday at noon ET, and France at 2:30 p.m. ET Monday. For the full schedule, click here.
Christinaki came to Maryland this January after playing her first season and a half at Florida. During her nine appearances with the Gators in 2016-17, averaged 17.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.3 three-pointers made per game, as they earned a Top-25 ranking. She led the team in scoring and was second in assists and notched her career-high 29 points at Chattanooga in November. She was named to the All-SEC Preseason Second Team.
As a freshman in 2015-16, Christinaki was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team as she averaged 10.4 points and led the team with 3.4 assists per game. She helped lead the Gators to an NCAA Tournament bid.
Eleven Terrapins have played for their respective national teams under head coach Brenda Frese, eight on U.S. national squads. Frese's Terrapins have won nine gold medals in international play, most recently Brionna Jones, who won gold with USA Basketball in the 2015 World University Games.
