COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Juniors Arnelle Sullivan and Millie Stretton picked up Maryland's first piece of hardware in the 2017-18 season after winning the "Bryan Bros" doubles bracket at the Columbia Invitational this weekend.
The duo -- playing together for the first time since Stretton's transfer from Kansas State -- went 3-0 on the weekend en route to the championship.
On Friday they kicked off play by defeating Marija Curnic and Marta Kowalska of Pennsylvania by a score of 6-1. They then picked up a 6-3 semifinal win on Saturday over Jessica Livianu and Kajsa Stegrell of St. John's. On Sunday, in the championship match, the pair won 7-5 against Jennifer Kerr and Paulina Ferrari of host Columbia.
Stretton also picked up a title of her own, winning the consolation bracket of the "Brooklyn" singles bracket.
Maryland also had success at the Bedford Cup in College Park. Freshman Zoe Kulkarni had a strong showing in her Terrapin debut, posting a 3-1 record that was capped off with a 6-3 victory in her final match.
The Terps will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 22 at the Cissie Leary Invitational in Philadelphia, Pa.
