
Terps Take on Michigan Monday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland (14-5, 3-3 B1G) will play its second straight road game Monday, January 15 when the Terps take on Michigan (15-4, 4-2 B1G) in Ann Arbor, Mich. at 6:30 pm. The game will be broadcast live on FS1.
storylines
• The Terps are 6-4 all-time against the Wolverines, and have won three of four meetings since UMD joined the Big Ten. Maryland won the only meeting last season 71-70 on January 7 in Ann Arbor.
• Maryland was without Dion Wiley against Ohio State on Jan. 11, as he missed the game after suffering a concussion against Iowa. Wiley's absence left Mark Turgeon with just eight healthy scholarship players against the Buckeyes after losing Justin Jackson and Ivan Bender to season-ending injuries. Bruno Fernando was limited to just 16 minutes in the game due to flu symptoms.
• Freshmen Bruno Fernando and Darryl Morsell have been one of the most impactful freshmen tandems in the Big Ten this season, as the duo have combined to average 19.0 points per game (first in B1G) and 9.9 rebounds per game (first in B1G). Maryland is the only team to have two different freshmen be named Big Ten Freshmen of the Week this season.
• Fernando has been a major factor for the Terps in conference play, as the Luanda, Angola native is averaging 11.5 points, 7.2 rebounds while shooting 54.2% (26-of-48) from the floor.
• Maryland has done a solid job taken care of the basketball its past four games, averaging just 8.25 turnovers against Penn State, #1 Michigan State, Iowa and Ohio State. Sophomore point guard Anthony Cowan Jr. has been key during the four-game stretch, holding a 5.0 assist to turnover ratio while commanding the Terrapin offense. Cowan has 12 assists and zero turnovers the past two games.
• Anthony Cowan Jr. continues to be the catalyst for Maryland on the offensive end this season, as the Bowie, Md. native has led the Terps in scoring in 12 different games including four of six Big Ten contests. Cowan leads Maryland in points per game (15.9), which ranks eighth in the Big Ten. He also leads the Terps in free throw pct. (86.6%), assists per game (4.6) and steals per game (1.4) while averaging a league-high 35.5 minutes per game.
• Head coach Mark Turgeon is currently participating in the Infiniti Coaches Charity Challenge in support of the Alzheimer's Association – the world's leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research. Turgeon has a personal connection with Alzheimer's as his wife, Ann, lost her father, Jon Fowler, to Alzheimer's in June of 2006 at the age of 68 after being diagnosed with the disease six years prior.
