COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Each week during the 2017-18 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week. This week's Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week is freshman Bruno Fernando of the men's basketbal team.   

The Luanda, Angola native posted a double-double against Penn State, then went for a career-high 21 points against Iowa to help pace Maryland to two wins this past week. Fernando averaged 15 points, 8.3 rebounds in 29.7 minutes per game and went 17-of-31 (.548) from the field the past week. 

Fernando scored 17 points and pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds in Maryland's 75-69 win over Penn State on January 2, then posted a career-high 21 points, along with seven rebounds, two assists and a block against Iowa on January 7. Fernando also tallied seven points, seven rebounds and a pair of assists against Michigan State on January 4.

Fernando is currently averaging 11.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game this season while shooting 59.3% from the floor. The freshman center has accumulated a team-best 26 blocks, while his average of 1.6 per game ranks tied for sixth in the conference.  

Fernando was also named the Big Ten Freshman of th Week. This is the first Freshman of the Week honor for Fernando, and the second for a Maryland freshman this year after Darryl Morsell earned the honor on November 20.
