Sejdic, Gasper Lead Terps on Senior Night

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Senior Amar Sejdic scored a pair of goals and senior Chase Gasper tallied three assists to lead the Maryland Terrapins (6-5-3, 3-3 B1G) past the Ohio State Buckeyes (1-12-2, 0-5-1 B1G), 5-0 on Friday.

The two seniors shined on Senior Night, where Maryland celebrated the careers of Sebastian Elney, Sejdic, DJ Reeves, Andrew Samuels, Gasper and Dayne St. Clair

"I'm delighted with this great performance on this special night where we celebrated a special group of seniors," head coach Sasho Cirovski said. "We were led by seniors throughout, not only by the goals from Amar Sejdic and Sebastian Elney, but by the incredible play of all six tonight. So many positives and it is hard to mention all of them. I am also really happy that we could score some goals for our fans, who have been supporting us all year. I really like where our team is right now. You can see that there is a little mojo happening right now. They are starting to believe and they're coming together. I am also happy we were able to get so many deserving players the opportunity to play tonight. It was a special night for a special group of seniors."

Maryland was on the front foot early and often, pushing the pace from the opening whistle. The first chance of the night came in the 14th minute, when Reeves nearly beat Buckeye goalkeeper Parker Siegfried. The Terps then were able to break the deadlock six minutes later, when Gasper found Elney who put the ball home from outside the box.

Despite not finding another goal in the first 45 minutes, the Terrapins never relinquished control of the match. At the break, the Terps outshot the Buckeyes 10-0.

After a calm opening 15 minutes of the second half, Maryland extended its lead when Sejdic rocketed a ball from Gasper into the net. Sejdic was then able to convert again eight minutes later, scoring off the first-career assist from Bryan Padilla.

The floodgates then opened 14 minutes later when Donovan Pines found his first goal of the season on a diving header in the box. Gasper had the assist, which was his third and final helper of the evening.

The night was capped by the first-career goal from junior Mike Heitzmann, who streaked down the field and tucked the ball home to give Maryland a 5-0 lead.

It was a complete effort from the home side, with the defense holding the Buckeye attack to just two shots all night. It was the second time this season the Maryland backline kept an opponent to zero shots on goal, previously keeping Coastal Carolina empty in the category last month.

Maryland's offense finished with a season-high 21 shots, which included 10 shots on goal. Maryland's five goals was its most this season, and the largest margin of victory for the Terrapins since beating Hartford by the same score in 2016.

Gasper's three assists in the contest ties the most in program history. The last Maryland player to accomplish the feat was Stephen King in 2007.

Maryland will wrap up its home schedule on Tuesday, hosting Penn State at Ludwig Field. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m., and will be broadcast live on BTN.
