Terps Notch Straight Set Win at Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, IN – Sophomore outside hitter Erika Pritchard, freshman middle blocker Rainelle Jones and redshirt freshman middle blocker Katie Myers all hit over .300 as the Maryland volleyball team dominated Indiana, picking up a straight set win (25-21, 25-23, 25-16) on Sunday.

"Really proud of how we played today," said head coach Adam Hughes. "It was a complete team performance and it's always great to win on the road in this conference."

As a team, the Terps hit .317 in the first set, .286 in the second set and .323 in the third set to complete a strong offensive showing. Pritchard was outstanding, posting 20 kills with only two errors, tying for the most in a three-set match since Maryland's joined the Big Ten. Jones totaled nine kills while Myers had seven and three blocks.

Sophomore setter Nicole Alford averaged 12.7 assists per set, finishing with 38, the most assists in a three-set match by a Terp since Whitney Craigo also had 38 on October 10, 2015 against Wisconsin.

The Terps played well defensively as well, with three players tallying double digit digs, led by 21 from freshman libero Allegra Rivas, the second time she's had over 20 in a three-set Big Ten road match.

With the first set tied at 15, Maryland took control, going on a 7-1 run, led by two kills by Pritchard. Jones then put the Terps at set point with a ferocious kill before a bad set on a Rivas serve ended the first. The freshman, Jones, was the star of the first set, hitting .714 with five kills and no errors on seven swings.

Pritchard led the Terps from behind, taking over in the second set, totaling the most kills any Terp has had in a set this season, with 10. Maryland trailed 19-16, before coming back to take a 23-22 lead on Alford surprise over the net. After a service error that put it back even at 23, Pritchard and Jones ended it.

To close out the straight-set victory, Maryland put together one of their most dominating sets of the season, taking the third 25-16. The Terps had it from the start line, jumping out fast to a 7-2 lead. Maryland then extended their lead to 15-6, with five straight points on a sophomore outside hitter Hailey Rubino service run. The Terps and Hoosiers played even ball the rest of the way as Maryland coasted to the three-set win, ended with a perfect set for Myers to put home.

Maryland now stands at 13-9 (4-6 Big Ten) and is the quickest the Terps have gotten to four Big Ten wins since entering the conference. The Terps will wrap up the three-game road swing on Wednesday at No. 7 Illinois.
