Terps Finish Second at Cardinal Cup

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Maryland women's golf team finished second out of 14 teams at the Cardinal Cup Sunday at the University of Louisville Golf Club. Maryland earned its best finish of the fall season under head coach Diana Cantu's leadership, as four Terrapins finished in the top 15.
Sophomore Virunpat Olankitkunchai tied for second and finished even on the weekend with a 216 (73-71-72). This is her second-straight top-two finish, as she finished second at the Princess Anne Invitational on Oct. 7.
"Another great performance for Virunpat," head coach Diana Cantu said. "It was great to see her so confident and mature on the golf course. She deserves to play great because she works very hard on her game.
Overall, I am happy of how the team did at this event. We beat teams ranked ahead of us and that will help us a lot. We are a very competitive team. We just have to keep going out on the course, trusting our preparation and enjoying the competition. Three of our ladies in our starting lineup finished in the top 10, which is also very positive for our confidence. We have a quick turnaround before we head to Wilmington to finish off our fall season."
Sophomore Charlotte Lafourcade went three strokes over with a score of 219 (72-73-74). She finished tied for sixth for her second straight top 10 finish. Senior Ludovica Farina tied for eighth with a score of 220 (72-76-72), which was four strokes over.
Competing as an individual, sophomore Laura Van Respaille tied for 15th with a score of 223 (73-78-72).
Freshman Elena Verticchio was 16 strokes over with her score of 232 (77-83-72). Senior Ludovica Scandroglio shot a 235 (80-78-77).
As a team, the Terrapins earned a score of 882 (294-298-290), which was 18 strokes over total. No. 73 Maryland beat tournament-host No. 37 Louisville, No. 44 Ole Miss and No. 66 East Carolina.
Next, Maryland will close its fall season at the Landfall Tradition tournament in Wilmington, N.C. Oct. 27-28.
