Bracher Readies for NCAA Championships

MADISON, Wisc. – Senior Emily Bracher of the Maryland women's cross country team is set to compete in her first career NCAA championship race Saturday morning in Madison, Wisc. The Freehold, N.J. native will race in the women's 6k championship at 11:45 a.m. at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course along with hundreds of the top distance runners from across the country.

HOW SHE GOT HERE
Bracher secured her bid to the 2018 NCAA Championship after being selected by the NCAA to compete as an individual following a 14th-place individual finish at the NCAA Regionals. Bracher earned All-Region honors for the first time with her performance. She was one of four runners from the Mid-Atlantic to earn an individual at-large bid. She finished as Maryland's No. 1 runner in every meet she competed this season.
NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
Bracher is just the second Maryland runner since the 2011 season to advance to the NCAA Championship meet. That year, Julie Fricke finished 150th individually in the field of 254. She covered the 6-kilometer national championship course in Terre Haute, Ind. in 21:24.0. Fricke was the first Terrapin woman to run in the cross country nationals since Rosalind Taylor in 1988. Last year, Alexandra Lucki advanced to the 2017 NCAA Championship after finishing seventh at NCAA Regionals. She went on to finish 163rd with a time of 21:11.6.
ALL-AMERICAN CRITERIA
A top-40 finish at the meet will garner USTFCCCA All-American honors.
