COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Head coach Julie Wright announced the University of Maryland softball team's 2019 schedule, featuring 52 regular-season games, including 17 at the Maryland Softball Stadium.
Maryland's 2019 slate features 14 matchups with opponents that advanced to the 2018 NCAA Softball Tournament, 14 games with teams that finished the 2018 season ranked in the top 50 of NCAA RPI and 10 games against teams who finished the season ranked or receiving votes in the final USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll.
"I am looking forward to this season with this team," Wright said. "They are an outstanding group of young women and we are excited about the challenges of the spring!"
The Terps will begin their 2019 campaign February 8-10 at the Troy Invitational in Troy, Ala. Halfway through the five-game slate, Maryland will face 2018 NCAA Super Regional participant and perennial powerhouse Alabama.
Maryland will then travel to Riverside, Calif. to compete in the UC Riverside Tournament. Six Maryland players will return to their home state for the five-game tournament, which features matchups against Nicholls State, Louisiana-Monroe, and NCAA Regional participant Houston.
Next, Maryland travels to Raleigh, N.C. to play four games in the North Carolina Invitational. The Terps will play George Washington, FAU, UNC, and Southern Conference champion UNC Greensboro.
The Terrapins then head to DeLand, Fla., where they will play Tennessee-Martin (2), Stetson, Fairfield and MEAC champion Bethune-Cookman at the Stetson Invitational.
Maryland finishes its preseason tournament schedule at home by hosting UMBC, Rhode Island, Drexel, and Villanova at the Maryland Invitational March 14-17. The Terps stay at home for the rest of the month, hosting Virginia before breaking into conference play for their first three-game series of the season against 2018 Big Ten Tournament champion Minnesota March 22-24 followed by a matchup with NCAA tournament qualifier Ohio State on March 29-31.
After 11 straight home games, Maryland gets back on the road to face Michigan State for a three-game stint in East Lansing, Mich., followed by a road trip to Bloomington, Ind. to face Indiana, and another to Piscataway, N.J. to play a doubleheader against Rutgers.
The Terps return home for a three-game series against Penn State April 19-21, then head to freshman pitcher Amelia Jarecke's hometown - Lincoln, Neb. - for a series against Nebraska.
Maryland concludes the regular season May 3-5 against annual Big Ten power Michigan at home for senior weekend, when Maryland will honor its three members of the class of 2019 in Bailey Boyd, Sami Main and Sydney Golden.
The 2019 Big Ten Softball Tournament will take place from May 9-11 at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.
