HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. -- Brandon Cray and Josh Ugalde will wrestle for a spot on the podium after qualifying for the Blood Round at the 56th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships.
Cray knocked off a pair of opponents in Saturday's Session II, including one by way of fall, to advance through the consolation bracket and into the Blood Round. He pinned two opponents on the day, and will wrestle Justin Cardani (Illinois) for a guaranteed spot on the podium.
Despite dropping his match in Saturday's quarterfinal, Ugalde still has a shot to finish his Midlands Championships on the podium. He'll meet Ben Harvey (Army West Point) in the Blood Round.
This would be the first placing at the Midlands Championships for both wrestlers. They would join Alfred Bannister and Youssif Hemida as active Maryland wrestlers to place at the prestigious event. Bannister placed eighth in 2016, while Hemida finished third in 2017.
Maryland currently sits in 13th place with 28.5 points.
Session III will begin at 1 p.m. (ET) on Sunday. The day will feature semifinal championship bouts, and three rounds of consolation competition. Session IV is slated for 8 p.m. (ET) Sunday evening, and will feature first, third and fifth-place bouts. Fans can stream the action via BTN2GO.com ($) and on FloWrestling ($). Live stats will also be provided by TrackWrestling.
