COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland men's soccer student athletes Donovan Pines (first team), Amar Sejdic (second team) and Dayne St. Clair (third team) earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region honors, the organization announced Wednesday morning.
The three were honored in the north region. Pines earned first-team honors after an outstanding campaign in which he anchored a Maryland backline that has given up just 16 goals in 21 games, the best mark for a Maryland team through that number of games since 2010. The junior, who has helped the Terps not allow a goal in the last 320 minutes of game play, shutdown a pair of Hermann Trophy semifinalists over the past two matches. Pines was also a first-team All-Big Ten selection.
Sejdic, who was also a second team all-region honoree in 2016, leads the Terps with seven goals and has added one assist this season. A senior captain, Sejdic has at least one point in all three of Maryland's NCAA Tournament matches. He was named to the All-Big Ten First Team for the second time of his career a few weeks ago.
St. Clair is sixth in the country in shutouts (11), which is a single-season career high. St. Clair's shutout total and current goals against mark of .715 is the best for a Maryland keeper since current MLS keeper Zac MacMath (15/.64) in 2010. The redshirt junior recorded a career-high eight saves in the Terps' Sweet 16 win over Duke and made a highlight reel save to preserve Maryland's lead in the Elite Eight against Kentucky.
Maryland, seeded 11th in the NCAA Tournament, will take on second-seeded Indiana Friday night in the College Cup semifinals in Santa Barbara. Kickoff is set for 10:30 p.m., ET and will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
