Terps Start Strong At Spire Invitational

Day one of the Spire Invitational started off with the throwers setting a strong tone for the group to follow. Emma O'Hara threw a lifetime best of 17.79m in the weight throw. Claudia Ababio had another strong showing to add to her resume with a mark of 18.49m.

Moving on to the track events, the sprint crew started off in the 300m dash. Xahria Santiago ran a lifetime best of 38.28 to move into number two all-time in the record books. Jai'lyn Merriweather continued the momentum with a run of 38.83. Chandler Baxter set her personal best with a time of 40.25 and Nadia Hackett also set her best time running 40.97. Thaila Cooper capped off the performances running 41.53.

On the men's side, Alex Leto ran 34.15 to break his record in this event for the second time this season. This is a lifetime best for the senior. Eric Thomas returned from injury and posted a time of 36.26, which ranks number six in Maryland's record books.

In the women's 600m, Dallyssa Huggins and Obichi Onwukwe both set new personal best marks. Huggins' time of 1:33.16 ranks #3 all-time, while Onwukwe's time of 1:34.86 is number six all-time.

Kameron Jones continued his record setting season, breaking his school record in the 600m by over a second after crossing the line in 1:16.76. TJ Bleichner ran 1:20.57 in his 600m race. Freshman, Aaron Robinson, ran his first collegiate race and finished in 1:20.73, moving him to number four in the indoor record books.

In the 1000m run, Alexandra Lucki, ran 2:47.08, finishing just off her personal best in this event. Christine Laurie also had a strong run in the 1000m setting a new personal best with a time of 2:54.73. In the men's 1000m run, Jared Loadholt posted a season best time of 2:31.19.

The evening of solid team performances continued in the 200m dash with Dai'lyn Merriweather posting a time of 24.81 and Cheyenne Jones running 25.06. Deborah Olawuni crossed the line in 25.49. In the men's section, Gaston Assoua ran 22.70.

Brittany Lang ran a lifetime best mark of 17:10.53 in the 5k which moves her into the #4 spot all-time. Molly Barrick crossed the line in 18:09.64. Patrick Hanley closed out the night with a victory in the men's 5k. This was Hanley's second win of the season in this event and his time of 14:32.15 moves him into the number seven spot all-time.
