COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland women's tennis team (1-3, 0-0 B1G) will welcome a pair of non-conference opponents to College Park this weekend when it hosts Long Beach State on Saturday, and local foe George Washington on Sunday.
Both matches will be streamed via Playsight and live updates will be provided on Twitter.
LAST TIME OUT
Maryland fell in a tight, 4-3 match against William & Mary. Millie Stretton and Eva Alexandorva both picked up a doubles and singles win in the match, which was also freshman Anastasiia Gevel's collegiate debut.
SCOUTING THE BEACH
Long Beach State will come to Maryland after a Friday matinee clash with George Washington. It will be the squad's only road trip outside of their native state of California this spring. It is also its furthest trip East since taking a trip to Illinois in 2015.
The Beach have posted a 2-2 record this season, with wins over UC Riverside and BYU to go along with a pair of losses against Saint Mary's and Hawaii.
Lena Pacholski will lead the Beach, likely playing at the top of their doubles and singles lineups. Pacholski is 3-1 in singles on the year, dropping her first match of the spring campaign in a loss to Hawaii. She also has won seven of her last eight singles matches dating back to the fall season.
SCOUTING THE COLONIALS
George Washington will host Long Beach State on Saturday before coming to College Park for an afternoon clash with the Terrapins to close out the weekend on Sunday.
The Colonials enter the weekend with a 3-2 record in their spring season. They began the year with a pair of wins over Harvard and Delaware before dropping a 4-3 decision against Navy. They then bested Temple by a score of 6-1 before falling in their last match at West Virginia, 4-3.
Freshman Julia Herlogsson has been an impact player since arriving in the District, posting an impressive 4-1 singles record in the spring season. The Gothenberg, Sweden, native was the only Colonial to not drop a match in 2018 before suffering her first lost of the season in George Washington's loss at West Virginia.
NO STOPPING STRETTON
Kansas State transfer Millie Stretton has impressed in the early stages of Maryland's spring season. The junior owns a 2-0 singles record to go along with a 2-1 doubles mark while playing with partner Eva Alexandrova in the top spot of Maryland's lineup.
FRESHMAN FOCUS
Eva Alexandrova has led Maryland's freshman class this spring, earning a 2-1 record between the number one and two spots in Maryland's singles lineup.
The Russia native also has a 2-1 record in doubles play while playing at number one doubles with Millie Stretton.
ONE LAST TOUR
Senior Ekaterina Tour is primed for a successful campaign in her final season as a Terrapin after getting her year started on the right foot with a win over Harvard.
The Tel Aviv native led the Terps in both doubles and singles wins during her junior season, picking up 15 doubles wins and 16 singles victories.
SUPER PANOVA
After guiding Maryland to its best season in program history, head coach Daria Panova was named the 2017 Wilson/ITA Atlantic Region Coach of the Year. Panova led Maryland to a 16-6 record, with a program-best seven conference victories.
She also coached Maryland's doubles duo of Kristina Hovsepyan and Alexandra Stanova to the ITA National Indoor Tournament after the two were victorious at ITA Atlantic Regionals.
Panova earned her 50th career victory at Maryland last season after the Terps topped Minnesota.
INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR
Maryland's roster features student-athletes from six countries outside of the United States.
The Terps currently have representatives from Belarus, Israel, Japan, Russia, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
