NEWARK, Del. – The Maryland baseball team took a 6-0 lead, but fell to Delaware 7-6 at Bob Hannah Stadium Tuesday afternoon.
The Terrapins (9-7) put up their six runs in the first three innings before Delaware (9-5) clawed back into the game. The Blue Hens tied the ballgame in the eighth before Calvin Scott hit a walk-off home run in the ninth.
Senior Zach Jancarski opened up the game with a triple before coming in to score on a Nick Dunn groundout. Maryland put up five more runs in the third inning with runners reaching on two walks, two errors and two hit by pitches. Dunn, Marty Costes, Kevin Biondic and AJ Lee picked up RBIs.
Maryland starter Mark DiLuia went three scoreless innings but ran into trouble in the fourth. Delaware plated five runs in the frame, keyed by a two-run single from Zach Miller.
The Terps got a solid two inning performance from Mike Vasturia, gave up just one hit and notched a strikeout. Delaware struck with a run in the eighth off the combination of Elliot Zoellner and Grant Burleson to tie it before Scott's home run off John Murphy in the ninth won the game.
Maryland returns to action this weekend with a three-game series at No. 18 East Carolina.
