
Terps Host Iowa for B1G Home Opener

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland softball team (12-20, 2-1) will play its first Big Ten home series this weekend when the Terps host Iowa (15-13, 1-1) for three games March 30 to April 1.
The Terps are coming off a 2-1 series win at Penn State last Saturday and Sunday to kick off conference play, while Iowa swept two games against Green Bay in their last outing on March 27.
The Hawkeyes spilt a pair of games with #17 Michigan in their Big Ten opener, before Sunday's slate was cancelled due to snow.

• Junior Sydney Golden turned in two of her finest performances as a Terp at Penn State, throwing two complete games for two wins in the circle.
• The Riverside, Calif. native held a 1.75 ERA for the weekend in 12.0 innings, first throwing a complete game, two-hit shutout over the Nittany Lions in 5.0 innings on Saturday. She followed it up with another complete game performance on Sunday, going the distance to help UMD clinch its first Big Ten series since 2016.
• Senior Skylynne Ellazar came through in a crucial moment for the Terps in their first Big Ten series of the season, launching a go-ahead solo shot in the top of the seventh to help the Terps clinch the series over Penn State on March 25. She went 6-for-9 from the plate while slugging 1.111 on the weekend.
• Ellazar played in her home state for the first time in her collegiate career at the Wahine Rainbow Classic March 16-18, helping Maryland to a 3-2 record on the weekend. The Kahului, Hawaii native played her high school ball at Baldwin on the island of Maui, before committing to play nearly 5,000 miles away at Maryland.
• Maryland tallied a season-high 12 hits to score seven runs and knock off host Hawaii 7-6 in the finale of the Rainbow Wahine Classic on March 19. A five-run fifth inning made the difference for the Terrapins, as the squad battled back from a three-run deficit to plate the eventual game-winning run. It was the most hits in a single inning for Maryland this season, and tied the team's single inning high for runs (5) with the five scored in the Terps' 9-5 win over Iowa State on February 23.
• Freshman Ryan Denhart has made an immediate impact for the Terrapins in her first collegiate season, holding a team-best 2.62 ERA in 106.2 innings pitched. The Los Alamitos, Calif. native posted a career-high nine strikeouts in a complete game effort against Jacksonville on March 9 at the Maryland Invitational, finishing with a 1.31 ERA and 17 strikeouts on the weekend.
• Denhart had a standout weekend at the Black & Red Classic, holding a 0.75 ERA through 18.2 innings while earning two wins and a save. She threw two complete games at the Tiger Invite, including a three-hit effort in 7.0 innings to help the Terps clinch a 4-1 win over Delaware on February 17.
