Delaware Tops Terps Thursday Night

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Freshman Randy Bednar had three hits, including a solo home run, but the Maryland baseball team fell, 7-1, to Delaware Thursday afternoon at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium.

Delaware (6-4) scored in the second inning and led throughout the contest. The Terrapins (7-5) ended up with nine hits, but could not string them together in key situations to overcome Blue Hen pitching.

Maryland starter Mark DiLuia worked a scoreless first, but gave up three runs in his next two frames. The Terps used six total pitchers, with redshirt freshman Mike Vasturia and freshman Grant Burleson tossing scoreless frames.

The Terps offense was led by Bednar, who hit his third home run of the season in the third. Junior Marty Costes reached base three times, as did junior Nick Dunn. Maryland left the bases loaded in the third and the seventh.

Maryland returns to action this weekend as Bryant comes to College Park for a three-game set. Friday's contest begins 4 p.m., and fans can watch the action live on BTN Plus or listen on the Maryland Baseball Network.
