Terps Fall Against Purdue

COLLEGE PARK, Md.--- The Maryland baseball team took (16-21, 3-6 Big Ten) the loss over the Purdue Boilermakers (17-16, 5-4 Big Ten) in the first game of the three game series on Friday evening at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium in College Park.

The Boilermakers tallied four runs in the second inning off of starter, Freshman RHP Mark DiLuia. DiLuia worked out of multiple jams the rest of the night, not surrendering any additional runs to the Boilermakers. DiLuia took the loss after going six innings, giving up four runs on eight hits.

Senior second baseman Zach Jancarski got the Terps going in the sixth inning, leading off with a stand-up double. Senior left fielder Will Watson, who had a productive day at the plate going 3-for-4, put Jancaraski in scoring position with his single to left field. The Terps' were then able to get a run back later in the inning with junior shortstop AJ Lee's RBI single to center.

Freshman LHP Grant Burleson came on in relief to keep the Terps within striking distance, allowing one hit over 2.0 innings.

The Terps were unable to hold the Boilermakers in the ninth inning after right fielder Alec Olund cleared the bases with a double to deep center field, putting Purdue up 7-1.

The Terrapins resume play Saturday at 2:00 p.m. when they take on Purdue for the second game of the series at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium.
