COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland track and field teams are gearing up to compete at the 124th running of the historic Penn Relays at Franklin Field on the campus of Penn University this week. The event begins Thursday, April 26 and will run through Saturday, April 29.

TERPS TO WATCH
- Junior Sam Shoultz has had a premier spring season, being named the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week on April 11 after hitting a clearance of 2.24m in the high jump competition at the UVA Quad Meet, tying the Maryland school record and setting the UVA facility record. Shoultz will compete in the High Jump Championship on Saturday.
- In the long jump, senior Kayla Richardson and junior Jewel Smith will look to continue their momentum set this season with both women consistently jumping over 20'.
- The Terps have an incredibly strong outdoor season in throws, with seniors Claudia Ababio and Emma O'Hara leading the way on the women's side, and junior Greg Thompson on the men's side. Ababio and Thompson will look to uphold their school records respectively. Ababio will participate in the women's shot put, discus and hammer throw. O'Hara will take part in the hammer throw championship and Thompson will compete in the discus throw.
- In the relays, the women's freshman squad will continue with their 4x400m success. The relay line up includes Xahria Santiago, Dai'lyn Merriweather, Cheyenne Jones, and Jai'lyn Merriweather.
- The men's 4x400m relay squad will include Aaron Robinson, Alex Leto, Kameron Jones, and TJ Bleichner.
- The women's shuttle hurdle relay will also be one to watch with a team comprised of Peyton Wade, Thaila Cooper, Nadia Hackett, and Jewel Smith.

- Last year, Lisa Meneau, Chandler Baxter, Kayla Richardson and Micha Powell combined to finish third in the women's 4x200 relay with a time of 1:35.12. The time bests the squad's mark from the qualifying round (1:35.35) as the second fastest team in team history. Greg Thompson secured a top-five finish in the men's discus championship, throwing a season-best 59.33 meters (194-7) to take fifth in the field.
- In its history at the Penn Relays, which dates many years, Maryland has a total off 11 relay championships. Terp greats Renaldo Nehemiah (1979) and Marita Walton (1983) are on the Penn Relays Wall of Fame, while Nehemiah, Walton and Drew Herndon have all been named Athletes of the Meet.
