EAST LANSING, Mich. – Senior Kevin Biondic notched a pair of hits, but Maryland's offense could not get going in a 4-2 loss to Michigan State Friday afternoon at McLane Baseball Stadium.
The Terrapins (17-24, 3-9 Big Ten) took a lead in the second but it was the only one they'd get as the Spartans responded with three answered runs.
Maryland grabbed its first run in the top of the second. Senior Zach Jancarski worked a nine-pitch walk before stealing second. Junior Taylor Wright then stroked a single into right field to bring Jancarski across for the first run of the game.
Michigan State answered with single runs in the second, third and fourth to take a 3-1 lead after four innings. In the sixth, junior Marty Costes walked to open the inning before Biondic doubled. After Will Watson's squeeze bunt attempt saw Costes thrown out at the plate, Biondic scored when a throw trying to get a stealing Watson got away into center field.
The Spartans grabbed an insurance run off freshman Mark DiLuia in the seventh. DiLuia went six and two thirds, scattered six hits and allowed three earned runs. Senior righty Ryan Hill tossed a scoreless inning and a third.
