
Terps Start Strong at B1G Championships

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Maryland men's golf team opened play in the Big Ten Championships Friday at the Five Farms Golf Course at Baltimore Country Club.
The Terrapins started strong, standing as high as second in the team scoring, before finishing the first round fifth out of the 14 teams competing with a score of 287, which is seven strokes over. They trail No. 35 Northwestern by two strokes, No. 43 Penn State by three and No. 12 Illinois by six. Ohio State leads the field and is one under par.
Senior David Kocher (Charlotte, N.C.) leads the way for Maryland and is currently tied for sixth in the individual standings. He shot a 69 Friday, which is one stroke under par. Sophomore Peter Knade (Easton, Md.) is tied for 15th with his score of 71, which is one stroke over.
Sophomore Bennett Buch (Sykesville, Md.) is tied for 19th with a 72.
Sophomore Evan Santa (Edgewater, Md.) and junior Timothy Colanta (Reunion, Fla.) went three strokes over with scores of 75.
The teams will play one round on Saturday and Sunday. The Terrapins will tee off at 9 a.m. Saturday. Live scoring will be available here.
Kocher finished tied for fourth in last year's Big Ten Championships, also at Five Farms. He shot a tournament-low 65 in the final round and was named to the All-Big Ten Tournament Team. Colanta shot a 68 in that final round to finish tied for 23rd overall.
