COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State scattered nine runs across six innings to seal a four-run victory over Maryland Saturday afternoon. The Terps (18-32, 7-12 B1G) fought until the end, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh, but couldn't overcome the deficit as the Buckeyes (31-11, 12-6 B1G) clinched the 9-5 victory.
After surrendering two runs in the first inning, Maryland got one back in the third as Skylynne Ellazar scored on a Buckeye error. The hosts would answer in the bottom half though, scoring two runs on three hits to extend their lead to 4-1.
The fourth inning would ultimately make the difference, as Ohio State used four hits to score five runs to take command. Maryland fought off the run-rule in the top of the fifth, thanks to a RBI double from Anna Kufta that brought in Amanda Brashear.
Brashear would deliver the highlight moment for the Terrapins in the seventh, smashing a two-RBI triple into the gap in right center field to make it 9-4. Kufta would get one more run across for the Terps on a sacrifice fly, before a ground out sealed the deal for OSU.
The teams will wrap up the series tomorrow at noon.
